SCENE 1:

Lance packs up a box in a hurry. He opens the door and leaves. He returns, unplugs a cord and lifts a heavy monitor. Jay opens the door, Lance startles, as the monitor lands hard on a table…

LANCE
Jay, jesus, you scared me. What are you doing back here?

JAY
I forgot that Mid Cap Prospectus. You wanted me to take a look.

LANCE
Oh, right.

The comment is met with silence.

JAY
What…is going on here?

There is another awkward silence.

JAY
What the hell, was this company even real?

LANCE
It was. Up until the market drop last April. I tried for months to get us back on track, but the hole kept got bigger. Listen, Jay, I need a favor. I need you to wait until morning to report this.

JAY
Report what? I don’t understand what’s happening.

LANCE
I have something for you.

Lance lifts the monitor and pushes open the door. Jay, alone, lets go of a heavy breath. Lance returns and pulls something from a paper bag.

LANCE
Fifty thousand dollars. It’s yours, man, you earned it.
